… Crunchy Fennel Salad<\/span><\/h4>\n

This is one of those of those last minute meals.\u00a0 I was driving home from work, listening to the tail end of this weeks \u201cThis American Life Podcast\u201d (which I really, really couldn\u2019t recommend more highly), and decided that I needed to cook anther meal.\u00a0 (I do have a bit of guilt that my 2013 effort doesn\u2019t remotely match my (late) 2012 effort).\u00a0 So I get home.\u00a0 I flick though the book.\u00a0 I pick this meal. I shop.\u00a0 I walk to the shop in the rain.\u00a0 I buy the ingredients. I walk back in the rain.\u00a0 I cook the meal.\u00a0 It\u2019s that simple \u2026 well almost.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

It\u2019s a simple meal.\u00a0 Its pasta.\u00a0 It\u2019s a red sauce pasta.\u00a0 It\u2019s a Jamie red sauce pasta recipe.\u00a0 It\u2019s like the other Jamie red sauce pasta recipes in his other books.\u00a0 Like 30 Minute Meals.\u00a0 Like others from 15 Minute meals.\u00a0 This isn\u2019t a criticism.\u00a0 This isn\u2019t a bad thing. This is a meal I know I can cook. A meal I know I\u2019ll like.\u00a0 It\u2019s pasta.\u00a0 It\u2019s got good ingredients.\u00a0 A lot of them are whizzed up in the food processor first.\u00a0 It\u2019s got fennel seeds.\u00a0 I know it will be good.\u00a0 And it is done in (a little) under the fifteen minute mark.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

There are two issues to report.<\/span><\/p>\n

1) This recipe calls for 700 ml of pasata.\u00a0 700 ml of pasta is a lot of pasata.\u00a0 It really is.\u00a0 It\u2019s a lot of pasata for a meal you\u2019re gonna cook in fifteen minutes. But in reality you\u2019re not.\u00a0 At least not the red sauce bit.\u00a0 That bit you\u2019ll do in ten minutes. Tops.\u00a0 That\u2019s a lot of sauce to cook down in ten minutes.\u00a0 My gut tells me not to put 700 ml of pasta in.\u00a0 My experience of cooking these 15 Minute Meals, tells me not to put 700 ml of pasata in. So I break a rule.\u00a0 One of my self imposed rules. But I break it.\u00a0 500 ml goes in. Which I still think is a bit much for the time allowed.\u00a0 So there it is. Another rule broken. Again.\u00a0 There is photographic evidence \u2026<\/span><\/p>\n

2) I have to use the food processor twice. First for chopping (with the bowl blade). Second for slicing (with the fine slicer attachment).\u00a0 I\u2019m trying to be bit tidier with cooking these meals.\u00a0 Which means I\u2019m trying to put more rubbish in the bin.\u00a0 More dirty dishes in the sink.\u00a0 So I use the food processor.\u00a0 I put it in the sink. The sink is full.\u00a0 Full of water.\u00a0 Washing up water. Washing up water with bubbles in it .. This becomes an issue.\u00a0 It becomes and issue because I have only used my bowl blade.\u00a0 I have not done the necessary slicing.\u00a0 I realise I must slice.\u00a0 I must slice with my, now, soap suddy food processor.\u00a0 I therefore have to rinse it.\u00a0 I rinse it quickly which means I get wet.\u00a0 More than a little wet.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

But notwithstanding the (two) issue.\u00a0 It\u2019s done. It\u2019s done in time. It\u2019s a good meal … The pasta taste good.\u00a0 The salad is very good.\u00a0 And it made lunch for me the next day. Yes I did remember to take it to work.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
