This was a slightly odd 15 Minute Meal for me.\u00a0 Odd in the sense that I cooked alone.\u00a0 I didn\u2019t eat alone.\u00a0 I cooked alone for the first six minutes or so. Hence the limited number of photographs.\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

Home group (my small mid week church<\/a> group) was at my house tonight and I\u2019m cooking for two friends before the meeting.\u00a0 Time is tight.\u00a0 I need to start cooking just after 19:00, with food on the table before 19:20 and cleared away(ish) by 19:40. Normally I would be all prepared in this type of situation.\u00a0 Everything would be cooked and being kept warm on the hob or in the oven.\u00a0 But it can\u2019t be with a fifteen minute meal.\u00a0 My friend Ed, who I went on my American road trip<\/a> with is due to arrive at 19:15 and Gavin is late! \u00a0I start to cook at 19:03.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The meal goes really smoothly.\u00a0 I have no issues to report at all.\u00a0 It\u2019s the first time I\u2019ve ever cooked 10-minute rice and it works well.\u00a0 Very well. \u00a0 The recipe works, without any stress at all.\u00a0 Frist one in under 15 minutes.\u00a0 I have a little celebratory dance at the end!<\/span><\/p>\n

The meal is nice.\u00a0 It\u2019s a really pleasant meal.\u00a0 I love the gherkin in the pickle.<\/span><\/p>\n

But \u2026 in some ways I\u2019m slightly disappointed.\u00a0 This is ridiculous.\u00a0 The four meals up till now have had either big flavours or been surprising in some way.\u00a0 This one is a bit more normal.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

How can I be disappointed?\u00a0 I have just cooked a meal in less than fifteen minutes that tastes great.\u00a0 It\u2019s a Wednesday night and I have things to do.\u00a0 What more should you be able to ask in this situation?\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

I had to buy brandy.\u00a0 The recipe calls for a splash of brandy.\u00a0 The brandy cost over \u00a37.\u00a0 If I add all of this cost, it will really distort the cost of the recipe.\u00a0 At most I used 5% of the brandy.\u00a0 Just this once I\u2019ll only add 5% of the cost of this ingredient.\u00a0 I know the brandy will be all used up at Christmas anyway.<\/span><\/p>\n

Musical accompaniment was from Biffy Clyro<\/a> tonight.\u00a0 So \u2026 \u201cmon the Biff\u201d \u2026 as they say.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\n

So it\u2019s Winter Squash Penne with Mint & Avocado Chopped Salad tomorrow.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

How much:<\/strong> \u00a35.20 (it just so happened that I had 2 sirloin steaks in the freezer).<\/span><\/p>\n

How long:<\/strong> Fourteen minutes and forty four seconds.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
