Text \u2013 Gavin to Kenny:<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

I\u2019m leaving town now \u2026 do you need me to get anything.<\/span><\/p>\n

Call Kenny to Gavin:<\/span><\/p>\n

Kenny:<\/strong> can you go to Morrisons and try and get me eight sardines \u2026 Tesco only had three \u2026 I need eight.<\/span><\/p>\n

Gavin:<\/strong> No problem.<\/span><\/p>\n

Kenny:<\/strong> Can you ask the fishmonger to butterfly them?<\/span><\/p>\n

Gavin:<\/strong> Yes \u2026 what does that mean?<\/span><\/p>\n

Kenny:<\/strong> They take the head of, gut them and open them up removing the bones, but the fillets stay together in one piece.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Gavin:<\/strong> ok.<\/span><\/p>\n

Saturday circa 12:45<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

Gavin:<\/strong> He wouldn\u2019t butterfly them for me.<\/span><\/p>\n

Kenny:<\/strong> Why?<\/span><\/p>\n

Gavin:<\/strong> He said \u2026 \u201cno I can\u2019t do that mate \u2026 they\u2019d fall apart\u201d \u2026 He said he\u2019d take the head of though.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Kenny:<\/strong> Fine \u2026. They won\u2019t fall apart.\u00a0 He just couldn\u2019t be bothered. I\u2019ll do it!<\/span><\/p>\n

Gavin:<\/strong> Does that count as part of your fifteen minutes.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Kenny:<\/strong> \u2026 \u2026 \u2026<\/span><\/p>\n

I butterflied the sardines.\u00a0 The fishmonger had not taken the heads off. It took five minutes. Ten may be. But remember I do not do this for a living. \u00a0And no it did not count against the fifteen minutes.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

This meal was a delight to cook.\u00a0 I had to buy saffron as one of my pantry ingredients.\u00a0 I used some of it for the first time tonight. You make a little sauce type thing to cook the sardines on.\u00a0 The Sardines and pancetta go on top and in the oven.\u00a0 Your grill oven.\u00a0 Now as you know, I don\u2019t have a grill oven.\u00a0 It went in the oven.\u00a0 Just the oven.\u00a0 But on a high heat.\u00a0 A very high heat.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The salad is great.\u00a0 You whizz up half of the stuff in the food processor and then the other half is chopped and makes the chunky part of the salad. Added to that is some big croutons made from fried ciabatta.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

I finished the sardines off under the grill for a minute or so.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

This meal is great.\u00a0 The sardines are lovely.\u00a0 The salad is great. Perfect actually.\u00a0 This has been one of my favorites.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Oh and by the way it was done in under fourteen minutes \u2026<\/span><\/p>\n

So Mr. fishmonger at Morrisions, Taunton \u2013 my sardines did not fall apart \u2013 I have photographic evidence.\u00a0 Consider yourself named and shamed.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
